Description
Sir Frederick Grant Banting (born November 14, 1891 in Alliston, Canada, died February 21, 1941 in Newfoundland) was a physician and, together with Charles Best, treated a man with insulin for the first time. Pancrein (insulin) was already manufactured by Nicolae Paulescu in 1916 by the processing of slaughter waste and patented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Romania under the patent number 6254 on 10 April 1922. Nevertheless, Frederick Banting, along with John James Rickard Macleod, received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1923. To date, he is the youngest winner of the Medizinno Prize at the age of 32. He was the first Canadian ever to win a Nobel Prize. In 1994 he was posthumously admitted to the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.

Banting died at the age of 49, on February 21, 1941, in the wake of his injuries that he had contracted during a plane crash (Lockheed L-14 Super Electra / Hudson) in Newfoundland, Canada.

Banting was set up at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto, Canada, (Plot: Section 29, Lot 29, GPS (lat/lon): 43.66771, -79.39021).
