Erwin Strittmatter (* 14 August 1912 in Spremberg, 31 January 1994 in Schulzenhof) was a Sorbian-German writer who wrote in German. He is one of the most famous writers in the GDR.
He also wrote the popular children's book "Tinko" (1954), the novel "Ole Bienkopp" (1963) and the trilogy "Der Laden" (1983, 1987, 1992).
Strittmatter's works were translated into about 40 languages.
Strittmatter died on 31 January 1994 at the age of 81 years after a long illness and was buried in the district of Dollgow of the municipality Stechlin.
