Donald Clarence Simpson (born October 29, 1943 in Seattle, Washington, died January 19, 1996 in Los Angeles, California) was an American filmmaker. He was known by hits like Flashdance, Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Bad Boys and The Rock. In the years 1985 and 1988 he and his partner Jerry Bruckheimer were distinguished as producer of the year by the National Association of Theater Owners. Simpson was found dead on his toilet in his home in Los Angeles. The cause of death was a myocardial infarction. Various websites report that he had at the time of his death over 20 different drugs in his body, among other various mental drugs. At the time of his death, his drug addiction was said to have devoured 60,000 US dollars a month. His job as an executive producer at the Paramount Studios ended when he broke down in the middle of a meeting and lost consciousness. The film The Rock (1996) was produced and dedicated to Simpson.
