On 28 December 2016, one day after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher, Reynolds suffered a stroke at the age of 84, the consequences of which she died the same day at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher have a joint funeral on 06 January 2017, and were laid to rest in the same location at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California.
